Industry, Mine, and Trade Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari says Iran’s carpets exports has not been affected by the recent Western sanctions imposed on Iran’s economy. Currently Iran exports Persian carpets to more than 80 countries all around the world including the United States.
“Iran is the largest producer of carpets in world and we are the number one exporter of handmade carpets. United States, Germany, Italy, UAE, Japan and Switzerland are the major markets of Iranian carpets. However private sector is trying to expand the market reaching China, South Africa, Kazakhstan and Russia.” said Mehdi Ghazanfari, Minister of Industries and Business.
“Iran holds 24% of global market for carpets and handmade carpets and companies export $500 million worth of carpets to foreign countries. We are working hard to increase this number. Our reports prove this fact that the recent sanctions didn’t affect of Iran’s carpets exports.” Ghazanfari added.
Weaving handmade carpets is the main business of 2 million people in Iran. The Persian carpet is an essential part of Persian art and culture. Carpet-weaving is undoubtedly one of the most distinguished manifestations of Persian culture and art, and dates back to ancient Persia.
