The visit by the Qatari Emir was his first to hold discussions with King Salman who took over as King of Saudi Arabia on January 23 after the death of King Abdullah his brother.

The leaders spoke about the international and regional situation and exchanged opinions on issues of a common concern, said official reports.
In December, Qatar hosted the GCC annual summit following a settlement of the worst crisis diplomatically to hit the GCC alliances since 1981 when it was first established. THE GCC is comprised of the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Qatar
The summit was only made possible after countries in the GCC endorsed an agreement, which was able to iron out the differences and define the common approach to all issues that have a common interest.
