Mehdi Monajati, ex head coach of Iran national football team, believes the recent loss against Lebanon has hurt the place of Iran in Asia.
Lebanon recently defeated Iran in Beirut during the qualifier matches for FIFA World Cup 2014. The loss raised many criticisms against Portuguese head coach of Iran national football team, Carlos Queiroz.
“Actually this loss (against Lebanon) has hurt Iran’s place in Asia, but still we have chance to qualify for the World Cup and retaliate this failure. So at this moment we have to support Team Melli and its head coach Carlos Queiroz.” Mehdi Monajati said.
“During the last 100 years, Lebanon couldn’t stop us. I think Carlos Queiroz is responsible for this result. Coach is the base of each team and players follow his rules. He must control players’ reactions against media.” Mehdi Monajati continued. Recently Iranian players decided to not interview with media and they have boycott all types of media.
Mehdi Monajati also criticized Queiroz over his arrangement and picking up elderly players. “As a matter of fact, Queiroz must invite younger players too.”
“We still have enough chance to qualify for World Cup. If we collect 9 points from the remaining 5 matches, then we will be on good conditions. I ask all the people, officials and especially media to support national football team.” Mehdi Monajati added.
Team Melli will face with South Korea in Tehran.
