The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu told his cabinet members that Israel had been cooperating with the international community as well as the U.S. ahead of what many expect would be the downfall of the current regime in Syria.
Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel was preparing for the downfall of the Bashar al-Assad regime and all the implications it would have in the region. In addition, he said what was worrisome was the chemical and biological weapons cache the regime held.
Most sources said the best evidence yet that the regime was sinking was the use of scud missiles in the northern region of the country that have been fired at different rebel strongholds in the area. Those particular missiles are the next to last resource that the regime holds. The only resource that supersedes them is the biological and chemical weapons it holds.
The al-Assad regime has held back using biological and chemical weapons due to harsh words from the international community including from Netanyahu and President Barack Obama of the United States.
Intelligence reports from the U.S. have said that Assad’s regime could be readying the weapons to use as they are becoming more and more desperate. The concern that Israel, the U.S. and the rest of the international community has is the biological and chemical weapons could fall into the wrong hands if the regime in Syria is toppled.
The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergei Lararov announced that Syria’s government had brought all the biological and chemical weapons to one or two different locations from many locations where they had been held previously. He said the locations where they are currently located are safe and secure.
