Seyyed Reza Mir-Karimi, the director of Iranian movie “A Cube of Sugar”, refused all the claims made by Iranian Culture Minister Mohammad Hosseini about his produced film. A few days ago Iranian Culture Minister said his country will boycott the next Oscar (Academy Award) over the anti-Islam movie produced inside the United States. He then stated Reza Mirkarimi had also confirmed and supported the decision but Mirkarimi refused these claims.
“I must say that I don’t agree with this action and I have never supported it, Minister lied. I have not produced this film for Oscar or any other prize. I directed it for my people and they have shown their appreciation on this movie.” said Reza Mirkarimi, director of “A Cube of Sugar”.
“They wouldn’t boycott Oscar 2013 if “A Cube of Sugar” was produced and directed by anybody else. They don’t want to see my success. Again I say I didn’t intend to direct this movie for any international prize.” Reza Mirkarimi added.
The recent decision by Culture Minister Mohammad Hosseini about boycotting 2013 Oscars has angered many Iranians. They believe Iran must participate in this festival and competing there has nothing to do with the anti-Islam movie.
